Reverse Mortgage Originator

Position Summary

The reverse mortgage originator educates prospective clients (seniors and their families) on using the equity in their home for retirement.The incumbent specifically explains how Amboy’s proprietary reverse mortgage relates to their needs, emphasizing Amboy Bank’s values, differentiated services, and how the process works for the client.The reverse mortgage originator provides exemplary customer service, explaining loan options and working with prospective clients through the loan process.

Essential Functions

  • Solicit potential clients through proactive contact with Elder care law firms, financial senior based community organizations, Office of Aging, banks, credits unions, and mortgage companies that do not offer reverse mortgage products.
  • Meet with applicants to gather information concerning their specific needs, desires and expectations to determine whether a reverse mortgage is an appropriate option.
  • Discuss, thoroughly explain and review all terms and conditions of the reverse mortgage to senior citizen clientele.
  • Develop solid, trusting relationships with existing client base in an effort to retain current, and attract future clients and grow reverse mortgage business.
  • Regularly and customarily travel to and from prospective clients’ homes, businesses or other designations of their choosing to complete reverse mortgage process.
  • Understand and adhere to Amboy Bank’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with Amboy’s risk appetite.
  • Identify risk related issues and concerns and promptly escalate to management.
  • Communicate with people outside the organization on a regular basis including customers, attorneys, and the general public.
  • Maintain technical and professional knowledge of legal, policy and procedural changes relating to reverse mortgage products.
  • Keep informed of industry changes, trends, and best practices in the reverse mortgage business.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or economics field.
  • Mortgage sales and customer service experience.

Licenses and Certifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the SAFE Act and how it relates to mortgage loan originators.
  • Knowledge of Federal Mortgage Loan Originator registration requirements under the SAFE Act.
  • Knowledge and proven record in building customer base and growing business from target demographics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with senior citizen population.
  • Ability to collaborate and relate well to all kinds of people, build appropriate rapport and constructive, effective relationships, and use tact and diplomacy to handle situations comfortably.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly in order to effectively convey information so that others understand and as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to enter and exit a vehicle 8 times a day.
  • Ability to use hands to grasp, handle or feel.
  • Ability to use computer keyboard and system to enter data and process information.
  • Ability to read, talk clearly so that others understand, hear, comprehend the written and spoken word, and see.
  • Ability to use telephone to communicate with others.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as teller scanner, personal computer, telephone, mobile device, copier, etc.

Working Conditions

  • Moderate sound as in business office with office machines, computers, and people traffic.
  • Open floor work environment.
